DIY St. Paddy’s Day Dog Bandana

Green looks good on you, but this holiday, it’ll look even better on your lucky fur friend – especially if they’re sportin’ their very own dapper dog bandana for St. Patrick’s Day.

Today’s tutorial is for a simple and stylish DIY St. Paddy’s Dog Bandana. It’s a festive canine kerchief that’ll look paw-sitively precious on your little leprechaun! And we just know all those Irish eyes will start smiling when they see your pup strut their stuff wearin’ the green this holiday.

You’ll need…

  • 10 mm rainbow ribbon
  • Fabric glue
  • Scissors and/or pinking shears
  • Measuring tape

Step 1

The size of your bandana will depend on the size of your dog’s neck. As a guideline, you’ll start with a square piece of fabric for the base that is:

  • 14 to 18 inch in size for small to medium sized dogs
  • 22 to 26 inch in size for large to extra-large pups

Fold your square in half (diagonally) until the two points align and cut along the fold, so that you end up with two triangles of fabric. You’ll only need one triangle for this project. So the other can be set aside or used to make a second bandana.

Step 2

Arrange green pom poms (in groups of three) around the bandana, leaving an empty space near the bottom. Glue them in place. Once dry, take your needle and embroidery thread to quickly stitch a stem onto your clovers.

Step 3

Next, let’s make a pot of gold! Using a sharp pair of scissors, cut the pot shape using the brown felt and cut 6-7 small round circles out of the yellow felt. Then, glue everything in place on the bandana – centered in the space you left open at the bottom of the fabric.

Step 4

Make a small bow using the rainbow ribbon and glue it  onto the pot of gold – and you’re done!

Once everything is dry, tie the bandana loosely around your dog’s neck, creating a chic double knot. Be sure that it’s not too snug. You’ll know it fits perfectly when you can easily get a few of your fingers in between their neck and the cloth.

Just think how fun it’d be to accessorize your pup on St. Paddy’s Day with this shamrock bandana! So quick, easy – and paw-sitively adorable!
