DIY Lucky Leprechaun Dog Bandana

The classic tie-on bandana is the perfect accessory for your dapper dog – no matter the occasion. So with St. Patrick’s Day around the corner, it’s time to whip together a handmade DIY Lucky Leprechaun Dog Bandana to express your pup’s personality and celebrate this happy-go-lucky holiday!

Best of all, there’s a special printable pattern included for the applique (eeeh! is this little fella ADORABLE or what?!!) to ensure your furry fashion piece is quick and easy to make.

You’ll need…

Leprechaun Dog Bandana craft supplies from Amazon

Step 1

The size of your bandana will depend on the size of your dog’s neck. As a guideline, you’ll start with a square piece of fabric for the base that is:

  • 14 to 18 inch in size for small to medium sized dogs
  • 22 to 26 inch in size for large to extra-large pups

Fold your square in half (diagonally) until the two points align and cut along the fold, so that you end up with two triangles of fabric. You’ll only need one triangle for this project. So the other can be set aside or used to make a second bandana.

Step 2

Step 3

Trace all the paper pieces onto felt using chalk or a white crayon. (You can use ink, but it can bleed on felt, so be careful!) Then cut all the felt shapes out with sharp scissors.

Step 4

To create the leprechaun’s face, use the thread to attach two black beads for eyes and a red bead for a nose. (If you don’t have any beads on hand, you can make french knots with the thread instead.) Then, add a few small stitches for the smile.

Step 5

For the embellishments on the clover, you’ll make eight straight stitches, coming up from the center each time, to create a little “V” at the base of each petal. Then, secure a gold bead or sequin in the center with a final stitch or two.

Step 6

Time to put the little lucky fella together!

Using glue, attach the face near the bottom corner of the bandana. Make sure to leave room for the beard – and glue that down next.

Then, glue the hat, hat band and clover in place, pressing each down onto the bandana. Let dry.

Tie loosely around your dog’s neck, creating a chic double knot. Be sure that it’s not too snug. You’ll know it fits perfectly when you can easily get a few of your fingers in between their neck and the cloth.

Now could they be any CUTER?!! OMGosh, seriously… how precious is this?! Whether you’re hangin’ out at home or joinin’ in a parade… it’s time to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with your party animals!
