No Sew Spring Canvas Tote Makeover

If you love giving everyday items a fresh new look, this week’s project is for you.

We’re taking a basic burlap and canvas tote from Hobby Lobby and turning it into a cheerful DIY tote bag with a colorful spring makeover. Using a printed kitchen towel, a pop of playful rick rack, and a few felt flower embellishments, this easy no-sew tote bag makeover urns an everyday bag into a cheerful accessory for the season.

You’ll need…

  1. Cut a piece of colorful rick rack and glue it across the top of the front pocket.
  2. Cut the towel a bit larger than the pocket, leaving about a ½ inch excess on all sides.
  3. Fold the towel sides under a ½ inch and iron down the folds, giving them a sharp crease.
  4. With the wrong side of the towel facing you, place fabric glue inside the bottom and left side folds and press down to secure them in place. Let dry.
  5. Turn the towel right side up and glue the bottom edge down. Then adhere the other fold that has been glued together onto the right side of the pocket.
  6. Gently smooth the fabric and pull on the other side of the towel, making sure the fabric aligns with the pocket’s edge. Secure this side with more glue, then glue down the top fold onto the rick rack.
  7. Time to add a fun embellishment! Adhere three coordinating felt flowers at the top of the bag (in between the handles) and you’re done!

A little fabric, a few fun details, and suddenly this tote has a whole new personality. It’s bright, cheerful, and proof that even the smallest details can make something feel completely new.
