With Father’s Day right around the corner, we thought it’d be fun to toast the best dads in the world with this DIY Custom Sharpie Gift Mug. So before you do anything else, grab your favorite Sharpie markers and let’s make some fun customized mugs! This is a craft the whole family will want to get in on.
You’ll need…
Set of colorful Sharpie markers
Instructions:
Step 1
Start with a clean white coffee mug and some Sharpies. We purchased our mug at Walmart, but you can find them in dollar stores, superstores or online.
Step 2
Determine a design, grab your favorite colored markers and start drawing. A quick Google image search is a great way to find design inspiration with fun graphics! Or for a more personal touch, use a favorite phrase or saying that’s meaningful.
Be sure to avoid drawing on the rim where your mouth will touch the mug or anywhere on the inside of the mug. This is just to be safe, because the markers are not non-toxic.
Step 3
Bake your mug in the oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Place it in the oven before it heats up. Then shut off the oven and leave your mug inside to cool down before taking it out (to prevent it from cracking). If you’d like, you can bake the mug twice to help the Sharpie ink set in and cure even more.
Important Tip: Be sure to gently hand-wash your mug instead of throwing it in the dishwasher, as the dishwasher may fade the design.
And you’re done! Isn’t this just the perfect personalized gift? Dad will LOVE keeping his favorite beverages hot in your super-cool custom mug. But don’t be surprised if Mom’s jealous…you’ll probably need to make her one, too! 😉
