DIY Dog Paw Butter Balm

Snow, ice and cold wintry weather can be hard on delicate doggie paws, making them dry, cracked and crusted over. Luckily, there’s an easy way to soothe painful paw pads…

Homemade paw butter for your furry best friends!

Today is all about keeping your dog’s paws soft and protected from the elements. And this DIY Dog Paw Butter Balm is just the thing to provide soothing, pain relieving, beeswax protection for those four furry feet (and nose!). It’s a natural and safe lickable balm and it smells delightful!

As always, please consult your vet if you have any questions or concerns about what you are using on your pet.

You’ll need…

Ingredients:

2 Tbsp coconut oil

2 Tbsp shea butter

2 Tbsp beeswax beads

2 Tbsp olive oil

1/2 tsp ginger

3-5 drops of cedarwood essential oil

5-10 drops of lemon or lavender essential oil (or a combo of these)

bamboo skewer

Small glass bowl

4 ounce wide mouth container and lid

Step 1

Add the coconut oil, shea butter, beeswax and olive oil into the glass bowl.

Step 2

Heat in the microwave for 30 sec at a time until the wax and shea butter have melted. This should take about 60 seconds or so.

Step 3

Add the essential oil and ginger spice to the other ingredients. Mix well.

Step 4

Pour into your wide mouth container, tin or glass jar and let cool before covering it with the lid.

Step 5

Gently rub the balm into your pup’s paw pads and between their toes. You don’t need to put it on too thick… a thin layer should do. The oils will absorb into the skin and there will be a nice layer of wax to protect the skin a little longer. Use anytime your dog’s paws or nose seem dry.

After just a few days applying this easy-to-make paw wax, you should start to see your dog’s feet turn silky smooth and become pain-free. And the beauty of a homemade balm is that it’s nontoxic and won’t be harmful if your dog ingests a small amount.

Dog paws go through a lot! So why not pamper them with a little paw-di-cure 🐾 Of course, if you pour the balm into a stylish container, you’ve got a thoughtful gift for the other dog lovers in your life!
