No Knots Fringe Fleece Dog Blanket

No sew fleece blankets are a great way to pamper your pooch no matter the occasion, but those bulky knots along the fringe can be really lumpy, bumpy and uncomfortable for a pup to sleep on. Fortunately, there’s a ridiculously easy way to make a DIY fleece dog blanket that doesn’t have a zillion hard knots around the edges!

So what’s the secret? Let’s find out…

You’ll need…

Fleece fabric in coordinating patterns such as this puppy pattern kit

A sharp pair of scissors (or rotary cutter)

Step 1

Decide what size you want your blanket to be and then add about 6 inches to both the length and width. The extra inches will become the fringe that borders the entire blanket.

Here are some general recommendations based on pet size:

2 yards for a small blanket

2 1/2 yards for a medium blanket

3 yards for a large blanket
For this project, we used 1 yard of this fun paw print fleece for the top and 1 yard of solid white fleece for the bottom to make a small blanket.

Step 2

Put the two pieces of fabric together, wrong sides touching. Using your sharp pair of scissors (or rotary cutter) cut a 3″ x 3″ square out of each corner of your fabric.

TIP: If you’d like, you can pin the two fabrics together to keep them from shifting while you finish the blanket.

Step 3

Make cuts through both layers of fabric edges to create strips that are about 1.5” wide and 3” long.

Step 4

Cut a small slit near the top of each strip (do this for both fabrics).

Step 5

Now it’s time to intertwine the fringe layers together using a super easy, no knots method. First, tuck the end of the top layer fringe (print color) into the hole of the bottom layer fringe (solid color) and pull until the fabric is completely through the slit.

Next, tuck the end of the solid color fringe (that’s now on top) into the hole of the bottom layer fringe (print color) and pull until the solid fabric is completely through the slit.

Finally, thread the top layer fringe (print color) into the hole of the bottom layer fringe (solid color) again and gently pull the fringed pair to secure the woven ends in place.

Step 6

Repeat all the way around your blanket, until it’s finished.

The flat woven fringe has such a pretty pattern to it! And with the fleece so cuddly soft, and none of those bulky knots to deal with, this is bound to be your pup’s favorite new blankie to curl up in all year long.
