DIY Yappy New Year Dog Wreath

Crafty New Year, everyone! Let’s kick off the year with a cute and cozy craft that’s almost as warm and snugglable as our furry best friends.

This DIY Yappy New Year Dog Wreath is inspired by the lovely little floofball by your side. It’s such a quick and easy – and unique! – way to ring in the new year. It’ll certainly bring a smile to every guest that walks through your front door.

You’ll need…

Step 1

Using scissors, make one ½ inch cut on both ends of your empty paper towel tube. Then, fold back where you cut to create two tabs. Be sure both little cuts line up with each other across the length of the tube, so that your tabs are at the top of each open end.

Step 2

Add hot glue to the four tabs and insert the tube into the center of the foam wreath form. Wedge the tube up to secure it in place – a little above the halfway point in the wreath’s inner circle. If you’d like, you can add more glue to secure the paper tube in its place.

Step 3

Grab one end of the yarn, tie it around the paper tube with a knot to secure it, and then continue wrapping the yarn around the tube and frame until the top half of the wreath is completely covered. You’ll want a nice snug fit – not too loose, not too tight.

Step 4

Then, keep working your way around the bottom half of the wreath form until everything is wrapped in yarn.

You can create any breed of pup you’d like… but to make our darling Beagle wreath, start in the center with white yarn and wrap it around the middle of the wreath and tube until it forms an “A” shape. (Tip: To make the top of the A a little more pointy, you can take a small piece of white yarn and tie it around the yarns near the top to pinch them together a bit more.)

Knot a strand of brown yarn to the paper tube and begin wrapping it around both sides of the white yarn A shape to fill in the face. Feel free to use any combo of white, brown and black yarn sections to finish off the bottom half of the wreath form.

Step 5

Cut out a rounded heart shape from the black felt (roughly about 3 inches in size). Turn it upside down, and glue and press into place on the wreath for a nose. Boop!

Step 6

Time to make some floppy ears! To do this, cut out two long ear shapes from the brown pleather and pin (or glue) them into place on the top of the wreath form.

Step 7

For a cute farmhouse bow, cut a piece of the white burlap ribbon that’s about 12 – 13 inches long and fold it so the ends are tucked under and meet in the middle. Then pinch the ribbon down in the center so there’s a loop on each end. Use a twist tie to secure the loops and make your bow. Embellish the center with a wooden button glued in place.

So there you have it! It’s doggie door decor that we just know you’ll adore. So fun and versatile to make – you could easily customize them to match your own canine companions. And oh my gosh, who wouldn’t love coming home after a long day to see this sweetie pie to greet them?
