Stars & Stripes Frozen Dog Treats

Every patriotic pup deserves the best – especially over the holidays! And with the Fourth of July right around the corner, we thought it’d be extra special to serve up some Stars & Stripes Frozen Dog Treats.

And you’ll just love how these froyo snacks will help to keep your canine companions chillin’ all Summer long!

You’ll need…

Silicone ice cube trays or candy molds – We found some adorable paw print-shaped and star-shaped ones that were ideal for this occasion!

Potato masher

Ingredients:

Strawberries (about a ½ dozen)

Blueberries (about a dozen)

Plain yogurt (about 5 oz.)

¼ cup water

Time Required:

15 minutes + 2 hours freeze time

Servings:

20 yummy treats

This recipe calls for plain, unsweetened yogurt, however, all natural, vanilla yogurt is fine to use too. Regardless of which you choose, please make sure the yogurt does not have any of the artificial sweetener Xylitol, as it’s extremely toxic to dogs!!

Note: Strawberries, blueberries and yogurt are safe for dogs to eat. If you have any concerns about what you’re feeding your dogs or questions regarding possible allergic reactions, please call your vet.

Step 1

Rinse the strawberries, remove stems and cut berries into small pieces. Rinse blueberries and set them aside.

Step 2

Place strawberries into a bowl and mash them into a pulp-like consistency. Spoon a layer of strawberry pulp into each space in your mold or ice cube tray.

Step 3

In a separate bowl, stir water into the yogurt to soften it a bit. (This makes it easier to pour into the nooks and crannies of your mold.) Just be sure it’s not too watered down. Then place a small dollop of yogurt on top of the strawberry layer in your mold.

Step 4

Top each treat with a fresh blueberry and freeze for 3-4 hours or overnight. Once solid, remove the frozen treats from the tray and store in an air-tight container in the freezer.

Don’t you just love how these turn out? A little slice of Americana in every bite! These will definitely keep your pup happy while you fire up the barbie.

If you can, try to serve these yummy frozen pupsicles outside…and just a few at a time (to avoid the dreaded brain freeze). If you give these to your pup in the house, the frozen berry treats will melt and stain your carpet!
