07 May Floral Ceramic Trinket Tray
Okay… quick question. Did you know Dollar Tree has the cutest little ceramic trays right now? These were a surprise find and now we can’t stop thinking about all the ways to use them 😄
This week we’re turning one of those simple trays into a sweet DIY Mother’s Day gift using cherry blossom decals and a little “LOVE” ribbon detail. Actually, you can go modern, classic, feminine, or even playful, depending on what craft supplies you use…and that’s what makes this one so fun.
Fair warning! This handmade gift idea is so quick and simple to put together, you might end up making more than one.
You’ll need…
- 5 inch unfinished ceramic tray
- Floral wall decals
- Scrap of twill ribbon with a fun print like: LOVE, Best Mom Ever, paw prints or red hearts
- Mod Podge and brush
- Scissors
- Optional: Fabric glue
- Optional: Gold paint pen
- Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the front and edges of your ceramic tray. Let dry.
- Pick your favorite decals, arrange them on the tray in a pleasing design. When ready, peel off the back of each decal, gently press them in place, and smooth out any air bubbles.
- Apply another thin coat of Mod Podge and before it dries, place a piece of ribbon onto the tray. The wet Mod Podge will help it stick to the surface.
Note: Embellishments that fold over the edge of your tray may have trouble laying flat. If that’s the case, you can use a small dab of glue to hold them down before moving on to the next step. - Cover the ribbon with Mod Podge and let everything dry.
- If desired, you can trace the edge of your tray with a gold paint pen for a dressier look.
Now you’ve got the cutest little catch-all ready to hold her everyday pieces. Earrings, rings, bracelets… all in one pretty place. And the best part is, she’ll think of you every time she uses it.
