Dollar Tree Fall Pie Tin

Dollar Tree DIY: Festive Fall Pie Tins

We’ve got another Dollar Tree makeover you’re gonna fall for! The really cool part is it’s soooo customizable!

During a recent trip to our local Dollar Tree, we found the most adorable little pie tin. (Ok so, on the label it’s actually called a metal bottle cap – but it’s Fall and this little cutie put us totally in the mood for pie 😉).

So we got to thinking… It’s the start of sweater weather. And the leaves are changing colors outside. And who doesn’t love pie, oops I mean, the beauty of Fall and pups romping in the leaves, etc. etc.? Which makes this the perfect piece to inspire a fun autumn doggie decor.

Oh, and can we add that it’s so easy-peasy to create and a bit of a stunner when it’s done?!

You’ll need…

  • Metal pie tin or bottle cap wall decor
  • Mod Podge and a brush
  • White or brown jute twine
  • Natural wood beads

Before you begin, decide what image to use in the center of the tin and print it out on cardstock. Or you can use a favorite photo of your pup, some dog-themed scrapbook paper from your craft stash, or maybe even have your kiddo draw a picture of your pup that you can use. Anything will do!

Step 1

Hold the image up to the light with the pie tin behind it to center the image on the tin. Gently push around the edge of the tin to crimp the paper. This will give you a good idea where to cut. Using scissors, cut out the image along the crimp marks, place it in the tin to see how it looks, and continue cutting around the image until it fits perfectly in the center.

Step 2

Remove the original jute hanger and then brush the inside center of the tin with a thin coat of Mod Podge. Line up your image so the holes are at the top of the tin and press down to secure the paper in place. Be sure to smooth out any of the air bubbles.

Step 3

Use fabric or hot glue to adhere two rows of jute twine around the outer edge of the paper. This will prevent the edges from coming up.

Step 4

Time to make a pretty new hanger for your wall decor! Thread one end of string into a hole in the top of the tin and tie the end in a double knot. Cut the string so that it’s about 8 inches long and thread 12 wood beads onto the string. Thread the other end of the string through the second hole and tie a double knot to complete the hanger. The beads should be able to move freely on the string with a couple of inches of string showing at the top. (Doing this will make it easier to hang.)

Step 5

Feel free to add a few tiny embellishments on top to give your wall decor some festive pizazz. It doesn’t need much – just a few small flowers, leaves, pine cones, berries, etc. Glue them in the desired spot, and you’re done!

Don’t ya just love crafting in the fall? So fun and doggone easy! And we love how customizable this project is! You can even create several variations and hang them together to make a beautiful statement on your wall that your family and friends will adore.
