Dollar Tree DIY: Jelly Roll Fall Fabric PUPkins

You’re gonna fall in🧡with this Dollar Tree makeover! Today, we’re sharing a fun and quick fall craft project that takes a few of our favorite finds from Dollar Tree and turns them into festive fabric pumpkins – in honor of our furry best friends, of course!

The best part is the amazing and quirky stem you can make from wired jute. Just wait ‘til you see how easy it is to upgrade the boring plastic one into a rustic, natural looking pumpkin with a few simple twists and turns.

Gather up a small styrofoam pumpkin, some wired jute cord, a little leather leaf and some of your favorite doggie fabrics in autumn colors – and you’re ready to get started…

You’ll need…

Step 1

Begin by cutting your fabric into strips that are about 2.5 inches wide. The length will depend on the size of your pumpkin. No need to be exact. Pinking shears will help keep the fabric from fraying, if you have them.

Step 2

Gently fold and roll the fabric strip into a tube shape.

Step 3

With the original pumpkin stem removed, start pinning the fabric to the top and bottom of the pumpkin. Cut any excess fabric, as needed.

Step 4

Continue rolling each fabric strip and pinning them to the pumpkin until it’s completely covered.

Step 5

Now it’s time to make a rustic looking stem from wired jute cord. Let’s start with the stem’s body… Create a bend in the wire about 4 inches from the end. Then bend the wire three more times, so you end up with a zigzag with four total bend ends.

Step 6

Next, make the base of the jute pumpkin stem. With the end of the wire pointing up, grab the two bent ends on the bottom and fold them up together about an inch. This will be the base of your stem.

Use the longer end of the cord to wrap around the folded over ends, winding your way around the base over and over until the folds are completely wrapped. Wrap a few more loops to create a wide base of the stem.

Wind the longer end of the jute around a pen or pencil a few times to give it a vine-like curl and cut the excess jute cord.

Step 7

Finish the top of the stem by twisting the two bent ends together nice and snug. Then bend them over together to make an arch. Gently wrap the last jute wire around the arch to make it look like a little vine.

Step 8

Embellish your little pumpkin by adhering a fun fall leaf to the top. Then glue the pumpkin stem on top to secure the leaf in place.

These no-sew cuties will really add flair to your fall decor! Super easy, and we love the little doggie details and the wacky wired stem on top. Let us know how your’s turns out!
