04 Oct De-funkify My Dog Spray DIY

We just love learning about ways we can help our pups and if it can be done naturally… well, all the better! Today, we thought it’d be fun to create a little something for our furry best friends that thwarts the stinky odors in between baths. And this De-funkify My Dog Spray DIY does the trick! You’ll have fewer trips to the groomers and even if you don’t have a smelly dog at home, it makes a great addition to your pup’s first aid kit!

You’ll need…

1 small spray bottle (about 1-2 ounces)

1 ounce of warm water

3-4 drops of a high-quality lavender essential oil

Step 1

Using a clean spray bottle, fill the bottle with one ounce of warm water and 3-4 drops of lavender essential oil. Tightly close the cap and then shake well. 

Note: Each time you use the spray, be sure to re-shake the bottle before using.

Step 2

Cover your dog’s face with a cloth or your hand and spray your pup from about 6 inches away with a light mist (avoiding the face and groin areas). Use your hands to rub the oil through the hair or brush your pup’s coat to spread the mixture evenly. You’ll find that the scent lasts about a week.

Thanks to its antihistamine, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, lavender is frequently recommended for pups to calm itchy skin, help with allergies, and relieve contact dermatitis and bug bites too. It’s also used to soothe burns and can even repel ticks.

Promotes rest and relaxation

Do you have a pup that hates car rides? Or is nervous at the sound of thunder? Lavender is well-known for its stress-relieving qualities, so it’s the perfect go-to when you’re wanting a natural sedative to calm your anxious or agitated dog.

Pampers painful joints

Lavender can also be used to relieve your pup’s inflamed and painful joints, due to its wonderful anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Just think of the treat this could be, if you used this spray on your older arthritic dog.

Remember, people and pets can react to essential oils in different ways, so please carefully watch your pup and observe how they react to this spray.
