Trick or Treat DIY Dog-Lovers Wreath

Labor Day might be just around the corner, but we can’t help thinking about tricks and treats!

This Halloween season, greet your ghosts and goblins with a stylish wreath inspired by our furry best friends. So grab a bag of candy corn and let’s give this simple Trick or Treat DIY Dog-Lovers Wreath a try!

You’ll need…

  • 12″ Grapevine wreath or larger
  • ¼ yard each – several orange and black cotton fabrics (make sure a few are dog-themed prints, of course)
  • Wired burlap ribbon, 1½ inches wide – ideally with an adorable dog print
  • Orange linen burlap ribbon, 5 inches wide
  • Imitation fall flowers, pumpkins or other embellishments
  • Hot glue gun and sticks
  • Scissors and/or pinking shears

Step 1

Begin by cutting your fabric into 8-10 inch long strips. No need to be exact. Use pinking shears, if you have them to help keep the fabric from fraying.

Step 2

Tie a single knot in the middle of each fabric strip. (Don’t these look like cute little bow ties?!) Try to keep the “right” side of the fabric showing on both sides of the knot.

Step 3

Glue a variety of these fabric “bow ties” to roughly 1⁄4 section of the grapevine wreath, mixing up the positions and placements as you go. Smush the fabric close together so that none of the wreath shows. Don’t worry about the knots being seen, the fabric ends will lay on top of each other and hide them.

Step 4

Wrap the decorative wired ribbon around the other ¾ of the wreath and glue in place with your hot glue gun.

Step 5

Now it’s time to add some embellishments! Put a nice spot of glue on the back of a few silk flowers or pumpkins and secure them in place in the desired spot on the wreath.

Step 6

Cut small pieces of the linen burlap ribbon, scrunch ‘em up and glue them into the fabric cluster to add a little texture. For this wreath, we tucked each piece of burlap under the flowers.

And now you’re ready for a Happy Hound Halloween!

Don’t you just love the sophisticated look of this dog-themed DIY fall wreath?! Can’t wait to decorate the front porch with it! One of the best parts of this project is that there’s so much room for customization. You can always change out the ribbon or embellishments to match any of your existing decor.
