Gingerbread Canine Christmas Cookies

Ok, so while you’re already in the kitchen making dozens of cookies for family, friends and neighbors, the kids teachers, etc…why not bake up a batch of these Gingerbread Canine Christmas Cookies for your BFFF this holiday?! The spice, molasses flavor, and cookie-cutter charm are guaranteed to get those tails a-waggin’!

Plus this dog treat recipe is quick and easy to throw together and the dough is really nice to work with.

Note: You may have heard that gingerbread is on the list of people foods for dogs to avoid, but this is because many gingerbread recipes contain nutmeg, which can be toxic to dogs. Rest assured, this recipe contains no nutmeg and is safe for your canine companion to eat.

As always, please consult your vet if you have any questions or concerns about what you are feeding your pet.

You’ll need…

Ingredients:

1 ½ cups  all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon ground ginger

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4  teaspoon ground cloves

1/4  cup molasses

1/4  cup water

2 tablespoons coconut oil

Optional: This recipe pairs beautifully with our super-simple, slightly-sweet Yummy Dog Treat Yogurt Icing!!

Time Required:

5 minutes prep. Bake for 20 minutes at 325°F.

Servings:

20+ yummy treats

Step 1

Mix together the dry ingredients in a large-sized bowl. Then in a separate bowl, mix the molasses, water, and oil.

Step 2

Gradually add the liquid ingredients to the flour mixture, stirring until combined. If it helps, you can mix with your hands to ensure everything is mixed well and uniform in color.

Step 3

Roll or spread the dough out on a clean, dry surface until it’s about a 1/4-inch thick and then cut out your shapes.

Step 4

Place the cut-out cookies onto a lined baking sheet about 1 inch apart. The cookies won’t really spread, but you want to make sure they have enough room to breathe.

Step 5

Place sheet in an oven that has been preheated to 325°. Cook for 20 minutes. Allow to cool, then store in an airtight container or place in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Oh my! With their soft centers, perfectly spiced taste, crisp edges, and adorable shapes – these treats are pure pup holiday goodness. And they’re super fun and easy to decorate!
