09 Jul Bumblebee Beaded Wreath
Have you noticed that bumblebees seem to be buzzing into just about every corner of summer decorating lately? Garden flags, wreaths, pillows, kitchen towels… they’re everywhere, and honestly, we totally get it! There’s just something about those fuzzy little pollinators that instantly makes a home feel cheerful. 🐝
So when we spotted an oversized wooden bee at our local Dollar Tree, we knew it had to come home with us. After a few creative touches, it’s now the centerpiece of a sunny beaded wreath filled with bright flowers, plaid ribbons, and all the happy vibes of summer.
If you love easy Dollar Tree DIYs, farmhouse style, and budget-friendly decorating, this one’s for you.
You’ll need…
- 10-inch natural wood bead wreath
- 2 yellow and white wood bead garlands
- 12-13 wood black beads 12mm in size (optional)
- 4 inch wooden bumblebee
- Scrap of corrugated cardboard
- Black sharpie marker
- Yellow, white and black acrylic paint & brush
- Faux yellow and white flowers
- Yellow and black bee-themed ribbons
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun and sticks
- Pliers
- Using pliers, unhook one end of the wood bead wreath and remove all the beads. Set 12-13 of these aside for the next step.
- Place a dozen or so plain beads into a ziploc baggie with a dab of black paint. Then close the bag and shake until all the beads are covered in black. Remove beads from the bag and set out to dry. (Note, you can skip this step if you already have 12 mm black wood beads in your craft stash.)
- Pull all beads off both of the yellow/white bead garlands. String a yellow, white, yellow and black bead onto the wreath hoop. Repeat this pattern until the wreath form is completely filled with beads.
- Bend the open wire through the other end of the wreath form to secure the ends together. Shape the wreath form back into a nice round circle, as needed.
- Paint the wood bumblebee’s body in yellow with white wings. Use a black marker to color the head, antennae, and stinger.
- Cut out an egg-shaped piece of cardboard the same size as the bee’s body. Tear off the top layer of paper to expose the corrugated bumps. Paint the cardboard body yellow, then use a black marker to color the bumps, making the bee’s stripes. Then glue the body onto the bee.
- Glue the bee onto the wreath form. Then tuck yellow and white flowers behind the bee to make a tiny bouquet.
- Tie a few black and yellow ribbons to the bottom of the wreath for a fun embellishment.
There’s a reason bee décor has become such a summertime favorite. It brings together everything we love about the season… sunshine, blooming flowers, backyard gardens, and welcoming front porches. This little wreath captures all of that in one easy project you’ll look forward to hanging up year after year.
