26 Jun DIY Dog Bless America Wreath
It doesn’t get more festive than this! Let’s celebrate America’s birthday this 4th of July with a DIY stunner for your front door!
Add a festive touch of red, white and blue to your home this summer by crafting this patriotic pup-lover’s stars and stripes wreath. This DIY Dog Bless America decor is a whimsical take on the American flag, featuring red and white ribbon stripes and twinkly stars.
Just so pretty…you’ll likely find your backyard fireworks won’t be the only things your guests ooh and aah over this holiday!
You’ll need…
- 14″ or 16″ wire wreath frame
- 2-3 rolls of red, white and blue linen burlap ribbon, 5 inches wide
- White star shapes (these can be buttons, wood, foam, etc.)
- Fabric markers or paint
- Fairy lights
- Hot glue gun and sticks
- Floral wire or twist ties
- Scissors
Step 1
Let’s begin by creating the red and white linen burlap base, working each color into the frame in a diagonal pattern. This will give you the checkerboard effect that’s so spectacular!
Grab the red burlap ribbon and glue or tie an end to the inner circle of the wreath frame. Pull a loop of burlap up from the back through the frame so that it forms a poof or bubble that’s about 2-3 inches long and is located in between the first two wire rings in the frame.
Then, take the white burlap ribbon, attach the end to the center ring of the wreath frame and make a loop above the red one. Gently pull a loop up into the inner wire ring opening next to the red loop and set the white burlap aside.
Next, pull the red burlap up into the outside ring of the wreath to create a loop above the first white loop you created. This makes a vertical row of red, white and red loops.
Make your second red loop to the right of the white one in the center ring, and finish in a diagonal direction by making a third red loop inside the inner ring.
Starting at the outside ring, repeat the same steps with the white burlap to create a diagonal row that lines up next to the red loops you just created. Continue alternating colors back and forth for each new diagonal row you make until four sections of the wire frame are filled in. (The last two sections of the wreath frame will be filled with blue loops.) Cut the excess burlap and tie or glue the ends to the back of the wreath.
Step 2
Attach the end of the blue burlap to the inner circle of the frame with glue or a twist tie. Pull up the burlap ribbon to make a poofy loop in the inner, center and outside rings, until you have 3 loops in a row that are about 2-3 inches long.
Twist the burlap ribbon before creating your next loop. This will help to anchor and prevent the poofs from easily pulling through the backside and unraveling. Continue making rows of 3 loops – working your way around – until the entire wreath form is filled. Cut the excess burlap and tie or glue the end to the back of the wreath.
Step 3
Time to break out the button stash! Use hot glue to adhere a smattering of stars, tucking them in and around the blue loops.
Step 4
Next, create a decorative dog-themed banner using some leftover white burlap ribbon. To make this adorable embellishment, cut a piece of burlap that’s about 15-16 inches in length and about 3 inches tall. Add a fun phrase like “Dog Bless America” using fabric markers or acrylic paint. You can finish the ends by rolling them up and hot gluing the rolls in place.
Step 5
Thread some fairy lights in and around your wreath for a sparkly touch…and you’re ready to welcome your guests.
Love love love it! It’s a super easy wreath that looks simply amazing. This little beauty will certainly brighten up the block. Show some USA pride and whip one of these up today!
Happy bday America!
