17 Dec Holiday Dog Napkin Wood Slice Ornaments
Are you ready for some festive fun? In going through our craft stash, we came across a bag of wood slices leftover from previous craft projects. So we thought it’d be pawsome to create some quick and simple rustic ornaments in honor of our furry best friends for the holiday!
Before you start, grab the kiddos, ‘cuz this is a project the whole family can do! In no time at all, you’ll be making simple (yet fabulous!) farmhouse ornaments using your favorite Christmas dog-themed paper napkins.
You’ll need…
- One or more natural wood slices, 2 – 3 inches
- Christmas dog-themed paper napkins or tissue paper
- Mod Podge and a brush
- 1/4 inch paw print ribbon
- Small screw eye hooks (optional)
- Hot glue gun and sticks
- Scissors
- Sandpaper (optional)
Step 1
Cut your selected image out of the napkin or tissue paper and trim to size to fit your wood slice. If using a 2-ply napkin, pull it apart and discard the back ply.
Step 2
Start by lightly sanding the wood slice to create a smoother surface. Paint the front of the wood slice with a thin coat of Mod Podge and place the paper cutout onto the slice. Carefully use your fingers to press out any air bubbles or wrinkles. Then, coat the top of the wood slice with more Mod Podge to secure the paper in place. Let dry.
Step 3
Create a hanger for your ornament by looping a small piece of ribbon and gluing it to the back of the wood slice. Or you can attach a small screw eye hook on top of the slice and loop your ribbon through the opening.
Some wood discs already have a hole in it for hanging. If so, simply loop a small ribbon or jute string through the hole and tie a knot.
Step 4
As a finishing touch, you can create a small bow with the paw print ribbon and glue it to the top of your ornament., along with any other small berries or holiday embellishments.
If you’re looking to add some rustic doggie charm to your Christmas decor this year, these easy wood slice ornaments are for you! Use them to decorate the tree, tie them to a Christmas gift, or you can even hang them from your rear-view mirror to bring pawliday cheer wherever you go!
