22 Jan Wood Heart Shelf Sitter
If you love Valentine décor that feels soft, warm, and timeless, this project is going to steal your heart. This week’s craft is a sweet, simple project that adds just the right touch of love to your space.
Using Dollar Tree finds, this wood heart shelf sitter layers warm bamboo, rustic red burlap, a whitewashed beaded heart, and delicate paper roses for a look that feels cozy, handmade, and thoughtfully put together.
It’s the kind of décor that looks lovely tucked on a shelf, mantel, or entry table all season long.
You’ll need…
- Heart-shaped bamboo cutting board
- 7 inch whitewashed wood heart
- 5 inch wide red burlap
- 4 inch LOVE wood cutout
- Small embellishments like faux roses or a flower brooch with some bling
- Brown and white acrylic paint & brush
- Hot glue gun and sticks
- Scissors
- Give the front and sides of the cutting board a thin coat of brown paint. Rub off the excess using a damp cloth to give it a stained look, if you’d like. Let dry.
- Cut a piece of red burlap large enough to cover the opening in the whitewashed heart. Glue burlap to the back side and trim away any excess, as needed.
- Next, glue the whitewashed heart to the cutting board.
- Find the right placement of your wooden Valentine’s Day word inside the white heart. Remember, this is a shelf sitter and will be sitting on its side, so you might want the word tilted a bit for readability. Once you’re happy with the placement, glue your word onto the red burlap.
- Add a couple of faux roses or a pretty bling brooch inside the white heart for a final touch.
And just like that, this budget-friendly DIY Valentine project is ready to enjoy. A handful of simple supplies come together with soft textures and thoughtful details to create a finished piece that fits right in anywhere you set it.
