The crafty fun continues with our DIY watermelon wooden drink coasters! Rustic wood slices become these fun, happy drink holders with a few brushstrokes of paint and Mod Podge. Definitely a sunny splash of summer under everyone’s glass!
These DIYs offer a charming and cheery touch to summer dining and garden picnics. So let’s get crafting!
You’ll need…
- Paper doilies
- Pink (or red), white and green acrylic paints and brushes
- Black medium tip Sharpie pen
- Green & white bakers twine
- Glue
- 4.5 inch wood slices
- Dishwasher safe Mod Podge and a brush
Watermelon Slice Garland DIY
- You’ll need three sizes of paper doilies for each watermelon slice. Paint the largest one green and the smallest one pink. Let dry.
- Fold one green, plain (white) and pink doily in half. Tuck the large green doily into the fold of the medium white doily. Glue white doily to the green one on both sides, making sure not to glue inside the large green doily.
- Tuck these into the fold of the small pink doily and glue the pink doily to the white one. Repeat this for as many watermelon slices as you’d like to make.
- Use a black marker to draw watermelon seeds on the pink doilies.
- String each slice onto a line of twine to make the garland, gluing the twine inside the large green doily to secure the slices in place. Hang and enjoy!
Watermelon Wood Coasters DIY
- Paint one side of the wood slice using white paint.
- Brush a large circle of pink paint in the center of your slice.
- Add a small stripe of green paint around the rim of the wood.
- Once everything has dried, use a black marker to draw a few watermelon seeds in the center of your drink coaster.
- Add a thin layer of Mod Podge to help seal the paint. Let dry.
Here’s to sunny days and positive vibes! Perfect for summer parties or adding a fun, fruity touch to any space, this lightweight garland and these colorful coasters are a whimsical way to celebrate the season. The only thing left to do is set the table with some cute watermelon plates and napkins, toss a few adorable watermelon dog toys into the yard for your playful pups, and let the fun begin!
