12 Nov DIY Denim Turkey Leg Dog Toy

This holiday season we thought it would be fun to spoil our pups with a homemade dog rope toy in the shape of everyone’s tasty delight. 

So we whipped up a quick, easy-to-make DIY Denim Turkey Leg Dog Toy that’s sure to bring yips of delight and hours of fun for you and your pup. 

All ya do is upcycle two items you can easily find in your closet – which means this craft project is F-R-E-E. Oh yeah! And there’s no gluing, no sewing involved…so let’s get started.

You’ll need…

Pair of old denim jeans

Old t-shirt

Scissors 

Step 1

To make the base of the turkey leg, cut the t-shirt into 1.5 inch wide strips. Wrap and tuck the fabric strips around each other into a ball.

Step 2

Cut about a dozen long strips of denim about 1/2 inch wide. Wrap strips around the fabric ball and knot each one to secure it in place. Continue wrapping and tying strips until the t-shirt fabric is covered.

Step 3

Cut three long strips of denim that are about 1.5 inches wide and at least 2 feet long. You’re gonna use these to wrap the top of the base of the turkey leg you’ve made so far – and secure them in place around the base with a rubber band. The ends of these strips should dangle at the bottom like a skinny octopus.

Step 4

Then pair the strip ends into 3 groups (2 strips each pair) and braid the denim strips for about 3 inches. Tie two large knots at the end of the braid to finish the “bone” part of the turkey leg. Cut any excess denim.

Step 5

Cut the rubber band and tie a small strip of denim in its place to hold the turkey bone stuffing together. And you’re done!
