Dollar Tree DIY Fabric Trees Farmhouse Tray

Hi friends! Today, we’re tickled pink (well, actually red & green!) to be sharing a simple DIY that turns scraps of fabric and a faux tin tile into a charming farmhouse-style Christmas décor. A quick trip to your local Dollar Tree will get you most everything you need to deck your halls in style.

This Fabric Trees Farmhouse Tray makes the cutest Christmas wall hanging or shelf sitter, and it’s such a budget-friendly craft. You’ll especially love how the dog-themed holiday fabrics in this one celebrate the fondness you have for your furry besties all season long!🎄🐶 #dogsarefamily

Let us show you how to make one of your own! If you need a Dollar Tree alternative check out the list below from similar items from Amazon.

You’ll need…

Craft Supplies on Amazon

  1. Cut a piece of burlap to fit the base of your wood serving tray and glue it in place.
Note: If your tray base has a design on it, you may want to give it a couple coats of white paint before covering it with burlap so the pattern doesn’t show through.
  2. Use cardboard or cardstock paper to cut out 5-8 triangle-shaped templates for your trees.Be sure to vary some of the sizes for each template.
  3. Lay out your cardboard trees on the burlap to get a general idea of your tree placement. Overlap your tree shapes as you create a “forest”.
  4. Once you’re happy with how your forest looks, trace most of your templates onto a piece of fabric and cut them out. (Save 2-3 templates aside for the next steps.)
  5. The remaining trees will be cut from a sheet of faux tin to give your forest a more rustic look. To begin, paint the faux tin in chalk white paint. Let dry.
  6. Dip your finger (or a clean, flat sponge) into green paint and wipe most of the paint off. Then gently rub your finger over the higher ridges in the tin to help those features stand out a bit more. Continue to lightly brush on the paint until you’re happy with the result. Let dry.
  7. Trace the remaining cardboard templates onto the tin and cut them out.
  8. Time to re-build your forest using the fabric and faux tin trees. Once you’re happy with their placement, glue everything onto the burlap background.
  9. Fill the sky with sparkly snowflakes and add a jute twine bow to the top of your tallest tree.
  10. If desired, you can hammer a sawtooth hanger on the back, hang and enjoy!

How pretty! Just think of the many fun and beautiful combinations you can make using different fabrics and materials, too. For example, no faux tin? Tear the top layer off your cardboard triangles and give them the same painting technique (white background and green ridges). Don’t have a wood tray? A thrift store picture frame would work just as well!
