17 Jun DIY Strawburst Dog Wreath
We just love the Fourth of July – definitely one of our holiday faves! And this DIY Strawburst Dog Wreath is so fun and so easy to make. And for sure one the kids can do!
All you need is a big stack of straws, a few wood pawprints, a splash of paint, and a scrap of doggie fabric for a great festive result you’ll be proud to hang in celebration of the holiday.
You’ll need…
- 6 inch floral craft wreath ring
- 103 red and white paper straws from Dollar Tree
- Scrap of blue cotton fabric dog themed, of course
- 5 Wood pawprints
- Blue paint and paintbrush
- Glue
- Pencil
- Scissors
Step 1
Place the wreath ring on top of a piece of paper and trace around it. Cut out the ring shape and glue it to the top of the wreath form.
Step 2
This wreath has three layers of long, medium and short straws. To do this, cut an inch off of 41 straws so they are 6 ½ inches in length, cut 2 inches off of 41 straws so they are 5 ½ inches long, and cut 21 straws in half to get 3 ⅞ inch pieces.
Step 3
Create the first layer by gluing the long straws around the wreath form with one edge of the straws aligned with the inner circle and the outer edges evenly spaced.
Step 4
Start the second layer by gluing a medium-sized straw in between two long straws with one end flush with the inner circle. Continue adhering medium straws around the ring, spacing the straws evenly between the longer ones.
Step 5
Make a short layer of straws just like the first two layers with one end flush with the inner circle and the other ends evenly spaced.
Step 6
Paint each wooden pawprint blue. Let dry.
Step 7
Cut a small piece of blue dog fabric in the shape of a wooden pawprint and glue it to the back. Do the same with the other four pawprints.
Step 8
Glue the pawprints evenly spaced around the front of the wreath. Attach a small loop of fabric or ribbon to the back of the wreath for the hanger.
Change up your door decor with this red, white, and blue sparkler to create a festive wreath that’s perfect for the 4th!
