When the weather outside is frightful — too cold, too muggy, or too hot — we’ve got a fun and fuzzy brain game DIY that will keep your dogs sunny-side up and entertained all day long.

The list of supplies couldn’t be easier – some scraps of fleece, a Hol-ee Roller and a zip tie. That’s it! And in less than 10 minutes your furry best friends will wag and wiggle with delight, as they try to uncover hidden treats in their new DIY Sniff & Snuffle Pup Star interactive dog toy.

So go grab an old sweatshirt and let’s get crafting!

You’ll need…

½ yard of fleece

1 medium or large sized JW Hol-ee Roller Treat Dispensing Dog Ball

2 zip cable ties (minimum 8 inches long)

A sharp pair of scissors

Step 1

Cut fleece into 16 strips that are about 2 inches wide and 20-24 inches long. The length will depend on the size Hol-ee Roller you have – the larger the toy, the longer the strips. If you’re unsure, start with the longer length and you can always cut them shorter, if need be.

Step 2

Crisscross half the fleece strips into a pile so they fan out in a star pattern. Then use a zip tie to cinch the pile together in the center. Snip off the end of the tie. Repeat this process with the second half, so that you have two piles of strips bunched together.

Step 3

Push the first bundle of strips into one of the holes on the dog toy until all of the fleece is inside the ball. Then pull the ends of the fleece strips so that one strip peeks out of every hole. Repeat this with your second bunch.

Step 4

Put a treat on the end of a fleece strip, roll it up to hide the treat and tuck the rolled fleece into the opening on the ball. Continue randomly hiding and rolling treats in selected fleece strips. Roll and tuck any empty strips of fleece into the ball until the toy is completely full of rolled strips.

Set the toy down for your pup to explore and let the fun begin! When they’re done playing, this treat ball can be tossed in the washing machine for easy cleaning, which can be especially important when food is involved.
