28 Jun DIY American Ribbon Flag

What’s red, white, blue – and soooo YOU?! Today’s craft is a super easy-peasy patriotic project that’s inspired by your imagination! ✨ Yup, that means whatever you decide goes!

All you need is a wood dowel or stick from the backyard, an old pair of jeans, and some fun scrap ribbons and fabrics that you can easily find in your craft stash. Of course, if you dig through and find ones with teeny paw prints on ‘em, all the better! 😉

Size, colors and textures…that’s all up to you. ‘Cuz this little beauty turns out gorgeous no matter what you choose.

You’ll need…

• Jeans shorts back pocket
• Scraps of red, white or blue doggie-themed fabric (fat quarter in size)
• Various patriotic dog ribbons in stars & stripes paw prints, red paw prints, puppies, etc.
• Fabric glue or hot glue
• White acrylic paint & brush
• Stars stencil
• 1/4 in wood dowel rod
• Scissors
• White or brown jute string

1. Because this flag will have your own personality and style, the first thing you’ll want to do is figure out how big you want it to be when it’s all done.
2. Use a wooden dowel rod or stick that’s about 2-3 inches longer than your flag, so you’ll have room to hang it later.
3. Cut strips of mostly red and white fabrics and ribbons to your selected height (for this project, we cut everything at about 17 inches).
4.  Glue the fabric and ribbon ends across the top of the wooden dowel, alternating red and white as you go. Overlap your ribbons and fabric strips in places so your flag is nice and full. (Don’t forget to leave that 2-3 inches on the ends open for the hanger!)
5. Cut the back pocket off of a pair of denim jeans or shorts, leaving about an inch across the top.
6. Fold over the top edge of denim over the wooden dowel and glue it in place.
7. Use your stencil to paint a circle of white stars onto the pocket.
8. Tie jute string to the ends of the dowel rod. Hang and enjoy!
