14 Nov Pinecone Gnome Ornaments
This week’s Dollar Tree DIY is small in size but big on charm.
These craft ornaments feel like they wandered right out of a Christmas storybook. Each little pinecone gnome has so much personality, from its soft fuzzy hat to its tiny nose, and adds a warm, rustic charm to your holiday décor.
They’re simple to make, sweet to display, and the perfect way to bring a bit of woodland wonder into your home this season. You’ll want to make a whole gnome family!
You’ll need…
- 2-3 inch pInecones
- Chenille yarn in your favorite holiday colors
- Small wood beads
- Empty paper towel cardboard roll
- Poly-fil batting
- hot glue gun and sticks
- Scissors
- Let’s start by making the gnome’s hat! Cut a 1 inch portion from an empty toilet paper or paper towel cardboard tube.
- Then cut about 25 strands of yarn that are about 12 – 14 inches long.
- Fold a strand of yarn in half, tuck the loop end into the middle of the cardboard ring, then thread the other ends of the yarn through the loop and pull them tight. Continue this process until the entire cardboard is covered with yarn. Set aside one strand of yarn for Step 5.
- Gently pull the ends of yarn with your hand to detangle any strands. You’ll want them all to line up neatly before this next step.
- Take your last strand of yarn, place it under the loose ends of yarn (about 1.5 inches above the cardboard ring), and use it to tie the ends together into one bunch. Knot the two ends of the last strand of yarn together to make a long loop. This will be the ornament’s hanger.
- Move the hanger out of the way and trim the bunch of yarn to create a pom pom on your little hat.
- Tuck a small bit of batting into the hat, so that it keeps its shape.
- Then glue the hat onto the bottom of a pinecone.
- Attach a small wood bead at the base of the hat for a nose. And you’re done!
So cute! Every little one makes the perfect keepsake for your tree or a thoughtful handmade gift for friends and neighbors. So cozy up, grab your glue gun, and make some gnomes that are sure to steal the show this holiday season!
