21 Aug DIY Messy Paws Mitten
It never fails, our furry best friends somehow seem to be magnetically drawn to puddles. They romp and roll and run through the wonderful wet stuff and then it’s time to head indoors. So how do you handle those filthy footsies before you let them in?
Today’s DIY Messy Paws Mitten project is an easy and clever way to avoid dirty paw prints getting tracked through the house. Yay, no more muddy blues!
You’ll need…
1 terry cloth kitchen towel
Grosgrain ribbon (about ½ – ⅞ inches wide)
Fabric glue
Scissors
Step 1
Fold the kitchen towel in half (short ends together) and cut along the fold.
Step 2
Set one of the pieces aside. Fold the other piece in half and glue along the cut edge to secure it together.
Step 3
Turn the towel inside out so that the hem is on the inside.
Step 4
Cut a 7-8 inch piece of ribbon. Make a loop and glue it to the upper corner opening.
Step 5
Run glue down the from the loop about 4-5 inches, press the fabric edge together and let it dry. You should now have a large opening along the side of your mitt and another large opening at the top. And you’re done!
Step 6
To use your latest creation, put your hand inside the side opening of the mitt and out through the top opening. With this hand, lift one of your dog’s front feet and pull his or her little paw into the mitt. Use the cloth to gently wipe any mud, being sure you get in between the toes. Mud and dirt will stay contained inside the pouch!
Depending on how muddy your puppy’s feet are, you can repeat this step to clean the remaining three paws. Or if your pup is loaded down with mud and muck, you can wet and ring out the mitten before cleaning each foot.
When you’re done, simply throw the mitt in the washer and dryer. Then use the handy-dandy loop to hang the mitten on a hook near the door of your entry area or over the doorknob, so it’s easy to grab and use next time!
