12 Apr No Sew Fleece Dog Blanket or Bed
Keep your pup warm and cozy all year long with this No Sew Fleece Dog Blanket! This double-sided throw is simple to make – just weave its fringed ends together. Pick your favorite fleece then check out our instructions to get started!
You’ll need…
Anti-pill fleece fabric
A sharp pair of scissors (or rotary cutter)
Instructions:
Start by determining how much fleece you’ll need. Here are some general recommendations based on pet size:
2 yards for a small blanket
2 1/2 yards for a medium blanket
3 yards for a large blanket
Step 1
Decide what size you want your blanket to be (no need to be exact here) then add about 6 inches to both the length and width. The extra inches will become the fringe that borders the entire blanket. Since there was no need to be exact, we simply used 2 yards as-is (1 yard each of the colored fabric) to make a small blanket.
TIP: Using your desired measurements to cut both layers of fabric at once.
Step 2
Put the two pieces of fabric together, wrong sides touching. Using your sharp pair of scissors (or rotary cutter) cut a 3″ x 3″ square out of each corner of your fabric.
TIP: Pin the two fabrics together to keep them from shifting while you finish the blanket.
Step 3
Make cuts through both layers of fabric edges to create strips that are about 2” wide and 3” long.
Step 4
Cut a small slit near top of strips (do this for both fabrics).
Step 5
Grab the end of the top layer fabric (print color) strip and thread it through bottom fabric (solid color) slit. Push the solid fabric strip down through print fabric slit (print should be on top now). Then, thread the print strip down through solid slit (solid color strip should be on top now) and gently pull the fringed pair to secure the woven ends in place.
Step 6
Repeat all the way around your blanket, until it’s finished. No tying knots needed!
TIP: For a more polished look, cut the strip ends into a v-shape.
No Sew Fleece Dog Bed
The cozy dog blanket was so quick and easy to make, we decided to make an adorable No Sew Fleece Dog Bed using the same technique. One of the best things about it is that it can be made for any sized pup (no dragging out the sewing machine was another plus!). So let’s get started!
You’ll need…
Anti-pill fleece fabric
A sharp pair of scissors (or rotary cutter)
Pillow insert (or polyester fiber fill material)
Instructions:
Start by determining how much fleece you’ll need. Here are some general recommendations based on pet size:
2 yards for a small bed
2 1/2 yards for a medium bed
3 yards for a large bed
Step 1
Decide what size you want your bed size to be, then add about 8 inches to both the length and width. The extra inches will become the fringe that borders the entire bed.
If you have a pillow insert, there’s no need to be exact here…just take some ballpark measurements. Take a general square-shaped measurement of how much space the pillow is taking up, then add about 4 inches to all of the sides.
If you’re using fiber fill material and you want your finished bed to be 18″x18″, then cut your layered fleece fabrics to each be 26″x26″.
TIP: Place your pillow in the center of your fleece and use tape to create a straight lines roughly 4″ from each side. Using your desired measurements to cut both layers of fabric at once.
Step 2
Put the two pieces of fabric together, wrong sides touching. Using your sharp pair of scissors (or rotary cutter) cut a 4″ x 4″ square out of each corner of your fabric.
TIP: Pin the two fabrics together to keep them from shifting while you finish the pillow cover.
Step 3
Then make 4″ long cuts along the edges of the fleece, making strips about 1″ wide.
Step 6
Repeat all the way around 3 sides of your fabric and insert the pillow form into its cover (or stuff your fill material through the opening until it reaches your desired fullness) then finish weaving the remaining fleece strips to close up the bed.
TIP: For a more polished look, cut the strip ends into a v-shape.
These two comfy, cozy projects can be customized to your home decor and take only minutes to complete. Whether it’s nap-time or night time, your new dog blanket and bed make a super-soft, perfect spot for your snuggle-bug! And as you can see, Leon loves his new bed!
