08 Jul Dollar Tree DIY Nauti Dog Jute Wreath
Don’t ya just love the look of decorative nautical jute ropes? They bring to mind summertime fun with happy pups running along the sandy beach with ears flopping in the wind as the boats sail by. Well, if we lived by the water, that’s what we’d like to imagine anyway! 😉
This DIY Nauti Dog Jute Wreath is so easy to make and gives you all the beachy vibes of summer – but on a total Dollar Tree budget!
So let’s put something stunning on our front door this summer…
You’ll need…
- 14″ foam wreath frame
- 11 packages (or 100 feet) of jute nautical rope
- Floral U-pins
- Scissors
- Blue and white dog fabric
- 9.5 inch white nautical ship anchor
- Several 4 inch plastic starfish
- Blue alphabet stickers
- Hot glue gun and sticks
- Jute twine
- Sandpaper
Step 1
Start by attaching one end of the jute rope to the foam wreath using a floral pin. Begin wrapping the rope around the wreath form over and over again. Note, the rope is fat enough that you’ll have more space between the rope on the outside of the form than on the inside. So you’ll need to smush the rope together in five sections as you work your way around. This will leave 5 V-shaped gaps between each section.
If it helps, each section will have rope wrapped around the form about 24 times – the last section may be a little bigger by a few extra rotations of rope.
Step 2
Next cut 5 small lengths of rope – about 10 inches – to help fill in the V-shape gaps. To do this, pin one end down into the opening and zigzag the rope to fill in the gap. Then add a couple more pins to secure it in place. It’s ok if the opening isn’t completely filled. You’ll cover this area in the next step.
Step 3
Wrap more rope around the patched V-shape areas (about 8 times) to cover it up. Do this second layer of rope for all 5 patched spots.
Step 4
Tear a long 3 inch strip of the blue and white dog fabric and cut it into five 9-inch strips. Wrap each strip alongside a doubled-up rope layer and secure with a pin.
Step 5
Glue starfish along the lower right portion of the wreath to hold them in place.
Step 6
Use sandpaper to rough up the nautical anchor and give it a rustic look. Add stickers across the bottom that spell Nauti Dog. Remove the rope from the top of the anchor and use it to tie the anchor to the wreath on the left side. Glue the base of the anchor to the wreath to secure it in place.
Step 7
Finally, cut a small piece of jute twine, knot the ends and tie it to the top of the wreath to make a hanger.
This gorgeous wreath is pawfect for giving your home decor a breezy coastal touch with a splash of dog-loving feels. Exactly what we need this time of year!
