21 Feb DIY Muffin Pan Dog Games
We’ve all had ‘em – you know, those days when your pup gets ants in their pants. They’re bouncing off the walls, looking for ways to burn off energy, and craving quality playtime with you. It’s usually ‘cuz your regular routine has been called due to thundershowers. Or maybe it’s just too darn hot or snowy outside to go for a walk?
Well, you’ve come to the right place! This DIY is just the thing you need to give your best furend more indoor fun-time on inclimate days.
Below are a couple clever little Muffin Pan Dog Games that take only a minute to set up and can be done with items you likely already have around the house. Not only do they entertain and stimulate your pup, but they are perfect to put your dog’s keen sense of smell to work!
Don’t have time to make your own? Here’s one we like: https://amzn.to/39glB0X
You’ll need…
Muffin pan
12 tennis balls (or other small balls)
A bag of small dog treats (or break up larger biscuits into pieces)
Note: For petite pups, we suggest using a mini-muffin pan with 24 small tennis balls. For medium to larger dogs, a regular-sized muffin pan and tennis balls will do.
Hills and Valleys Dog Activity
Step 1
Take the muffin tin pan and turn it upside-down on the floor.
Step 2
Sprinkle a number of small treats onto the back of the pan, so they land in the valleys and crevices.
Step 3
To increase the level of difficulty, place a few tennis balls on top.
Step 4
Encourage your dog to nudge around and under the tennis balls, as they search for the treats from all different angles.
Buried Treasure Dog Activity
Step 1
Lay the muffin tin pan upright on the floor.
Step 2
Place treats into several of the muffin cups, leaving some of the cups empty.
Step 3
Put a tennis ball in every cup to cover the treats and fill empty spots.
Step 4
Allow your dog to sniff around the pan. Give her a chance to figure out how to knock the tennis balls out of the cups to discover buried treasures. If she needs a little help at first, lift a tennis ball and let her eat the treats. Then encourage her to find the others.
Regardless of the weather, these two quick and easy nose-work activities provide the mental and physical stimulation pups need. Your four-legged friend will love the challenge…and, of course, all the tasty rewards!
