28 Feb DIY Lucky Dog Ribbon Wreath
Whether you have one seemingly innocent pup or a motley crew of mutts at home, the shenanigans never end! So we’re thinking this makes St. Patrick’s Day the official holiday of pet parents, right? 😉
In honor of our tricky little four-legged leprechauns, let’s embrace the holiday by making a simple DIY Lucky Dog Wreath! It’s guaranteed to bring some festive cheer (and maybe even a wee bit of Irish magic) to all who grace your front stoop.
You’ll need…
- 16″ foam wreath
- About 10 yds of green or white ribbon for the base, roughly 1½ to 3 inches wide (use favorites from your stash at home or find ones with shamrocks, gingham or dots)
- A variety of other green and white ribbons for the bow
- Mod Podge
- Cardboard or foam core
- St. Patrick’s Day printable
- Pen or pencil
- Paintbrush
- Hot glue gun and sticks
- Floral wire or twist ties
- Scissors
- Green button
Step 1
Time to create the Lucky Dog sign. 🙂
Use this link to download and print the “Lucky Dog” shamrock we made especially for you! Cut out the image and set it aside. You’ll use this in a minute as a template to create the sign backing.
Cut a piece of foam core or cardboard slightly bigger than the shape of the sign. Now, take the image you previously cut, trace its shape onto the backing and cut it out.
Paint a thin layer of Mod Podge on one side of the backing. Take the sign image and place it on the wet layer, pressing it flat to ensure there aren’t any bubbles. Paint another thin layer of Mod Podge on top to secure the image in place. Once your sign is dry, you can attach a small ribbon to the back and hang it from the wreath using your hot glue gun.
Step 2
Apply a drop of hot glue somewhere on the back of the wreath to attach the start of the base ribbon and begin wrapping. Continue wrapping the wreath with ribbon until it’s completely covered. Cut off the excess ribbon and glue the tail end on the back side of the wreath.
Step 3
Using several of your green and white ribbons, make a large bow and attach it to the wreath with hot glue. For an extra-festive touch, you can accent your bow with a ribbon shamrock using the instructions found here.
Step 4
Cut one foot of your decorative green ribbon and tie around the top of the wreath for hanging.
What a beautiful way to dress your door this St. Patrick’s Day! And you can see how easy it is to change up the look, just by using different ribbons. Gingham ribbon has a sweet country home look, whereas burlap can give the wreath a more rustic vibe. Any way you make it, you’ll find this quick and easy wreath is the perfect way to bring the luck of the Irish to your dog-loving home.
Wishing a happy St. Patrick’s Day to you and your lucky dog!
