These frozen KONGs are easy to prepare, they last a long time, and they’re a great way to keep your dog active and entertained all Summer long. And if you’re not sure what sorts of ingredients to use for Kong stuffing you’ve come to the right place.
Pup Strut Strawberry Shortcake
You’ll need…
KONG interactive toy
Ingredients:
Cream cheese
Graham crackers – crumbled
Strawberries
Strawberry yogurt (naturally flavored)
Please make sure yogurt is naturally flavored and DOES NOT CONTAIN the artificial sweetener XYLITOL. It’s extremely toxic to dogs!!
Time Required:
10 minutes + 4 hours freeze time
Servings:
1 tantalizing frozen treat
Instructions:
Step 1
Fill the small hole of the empty KONG with cream cheese to seal the end, so you can add layers of the other ingredients from the other end.
Step 2
Crumble a few graham crackers into the KONG from the large hole.
Step 3
Wash berries and remove stems. Cut them into pieces and add a layer into the toy.
Step 4
Spoon yogurt into the KONG until it’s about 3/4 full.
Step 5
Add a layer of graham cracker pieces and then top everything off with cream cheese to fill the larger hole.
Step 6
Place a graham cracker into the cream cheese so that it sticks out. This makes it an easy “win” for your pup when they first start to nibble and gets them excited for more. Freeze for at least 4 hours before serving.
Important Tip! These frozen KONGsicles can make a mess, so they are best served on an easy to clean floor or in the out of doors. When sharing this with your dog for the first time, be sure to supervise the activity. KONGs are not indestructible and can be chewed into pieces.
p.s. If you don’t have a KONG handy, you can use a paper cup instead. Simply run the frozen cup under warm water to loosen the pupsicle out of its container before serving.
