18 Apr Upcycled Mason Jar Vase
We’ve got your next spring DIY obsession right here… 😍
Beautiful blooms meet farmhouse vibes in this week’s crafty makeover. All you need is a glass mason jar (we got ours from Dollar Tree), white chalk paint, some colorful napkins, Mod Podge, twine, and a few pretty beads. The napkin decoupage technique is super easy and the results are stunning! The best part? We’re adding sweet little paw print charms to give this craft a tail-wagging twist!🌸🐾
In no time at all, you can transform a simple glass jar into a cute and colorful vase that’s even safe to use with water and fresh flowers. It’s fun, fast, and totally fetching.
Big thanks to @cathiefilian for the inspiration! The transformation she made with her upcycled mason jars turned out BEE-utiful. 🐝
Ready to get crafty?
You’ll need…
- Any size mason jars
- White chalk paint and brush
- Dishwasher safe Mod Podge
- Several floral paper napkins in blue/white, pink peonies, or watercolor roses
- Colorful ceramic and glass beads
- Paw print charms
- Scissors
- Fresh or faux flowers

- Remove the jar lid (and save this in your craft stash for another fun project we’ll do soon!) and paint the jar with two coats of white chalk paint. You can leave the bottom of the jar unpainted.
- If your napkins are 3-ply, remove the back layer so you’re left with a 2-ply napkin.
- Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the front of the jar and press the napkin in place. You should have some “extra napkin” overhanging the top and bottom of the jar. Slowly work your way around the jar as you continue to apply Mod Podge and adhere the napkin to the glass.
Note: Be careful not to pull the napkin too tightly – it won’t be perfectly flat against the glass, especially over any raised ounce markings. Embrace the tiny wrinkles, they add character to the overall effect. You can remove some of the wrinkles and get a bit smoother finish by gently tapping on them with your fingers. (Pulling the wet napkin may cause a tear.) - Before applying a second coat of Mod Podge to the jar, fold over the top and bottom portions of the napkin and secure the edges down. Coat the jar with an even coat and let everything dry.
- Wind a strand of jute twine around the top of the jar 4-5 times and tie a knot with plenty of length left on the two ends.
- String a few beads to both ends of the twine and trim the excess. Of course, we love adding a little paw print bling to ours in honor of our furry BFFs!
- Fill the jars with water and fresh flowers – or tuck a few faux blooms into the jar to make a darling bouquet.
These turn out AH-MAZE-ING! And so many ways to customize! Group several together to make a charming centerpiece for your next garden party or bridal shower. They’re sure to add a sprinkle of whimsy to your table.
These cheerful vases would also make the perfect handmade gift for Mother’s Day! Fill it with her favorite flowers to show Mom how much you care. 💕
