18 Sep DIY Flirty Fall Dog Bandana
It’s the last week of Summer so it’s the pawfect time to officially be excited about gearin’ up for fall! This past week our pups have enjoyed some early fall temps and this just got us giddy with excitement for one of our favorite seasons to arrive.
Today’s project is all about your pretty pups and handsome hounds, ‘cuz we’re making a DIY Flirty Fall Dog Bandana. Not only is this one simple and sweet, it’s a fun fall fashion accessory for your pup.
You’ll need…
- ¼ – ½ yard white cotton fabric
- Acrylic fabric paints in fall colors
- Pawprint stamp
- Fabric markers
- Brushes
- Scissors and/or pinking shears
- Measuring tape
Step 1
The size of your bandana will depend on the size of your dog’s neck. As a guideline, you’ll start with a square piece of fabric for the base that is:
- 14 to 18 inch in size for small to medium sized dogs
- 22 to 26 inch in size for large to extra-large pups
Fold your square in half (diagonally) until the two points align and cut along the fold using pinking shears, so that you end up with two triangles of fabric. You’ll only need one triangle for this project. So the other can be set aside or used to make a second bandana.
Step 2
Apply a thin layer of acrylic paint to your stamp and then press it firmly onto your fabric. Add another layer of paint each time you stamp. Continue stamping randomly around the bandana until you’re happy with your design, changing up the colors as desired. Let dry.
Step 3
You could actually call it done at this point, but we thought it’d be sweet to spice it up a bit with some flirty swishes and swirls. Sketch small embellishments onto the fabric in between the paw prints using a fabric marker. Create any design you want, but it’s probably best to keep it simple.
Tie loosely around your dog’s neck, making a double knot. Be sure that it’s not too snug. You’ll know it fits perfectly when you can easily get a few of your fingers in between their neck and the cloth.
Congratulations, you just created your very own custom puppy print for Fall! And don’t worry if the stamp marks aren’t perfect… it’ll give your bandana a nice handmade look!
