11 Jan DIY Dog Sherpa Coat
Long or short? Barrel chested or broad shoulders? Our pups come in all shapes and sizes. So we got to wondering…
Who else has trouble finding a winter coat that fits your pup just right? Well, today’s your lucky day! This DIY Dog Sherpa Coat tutorial shows you just how to create a cozy custom dog coat in no time at all!
The supplies list is super-short: ½ yard of sherpa-lined suede fabric, velcro, buttons, scissors, and needle and thread. If you’re really ambitious, you can break out the sewing machine. We did all our stitches by hand. 🙂
Here’s a link to the fabric we found at Hobby Lobby for this project. It comes in two colors: khaki and chestnut. Not only is it super soft and luxe looking, but it’s washable too (see care instructions below). And for a little extra protection, you can always use Scotchgard to protect from those pesky spots and stains.
Fabric care instructions: Machine wash, cold; use mild soap, no detergent; fluff or delicate cycle, low heat. Do not bleach.
We just love how quick and easy it is to make a super-stylish creation for your cuddly canine…that also keeps out the cold!

Posted at 01:00h, 23 JulyHi, LuAnn! Sorry, we don’t have printable instructions for this project. Everything is in the video. This was a project we made using our tried and true “flying by the seat of our pants” method. Haha! The tip is to purchase the sueded sherpa fleece fabric- that will save you a ton of time and make your completed coat look and feel amazing!
