05 Feb DIY Dog LOVErs Wall Art
A few weeks ago, we nabbed up these adorable wooden heart ornaments for just .50 cents a piece during the after-Christmas sales and knew they’d be pawfect for a Valentine’s Day craft.
And now that it’s put together, we’re crazy in puppy love with this DIY Dog LOVErs Wall Art project. Wait ’til you see how quick and easy it is to create this farmhouse wall decor in honor of your furry BFF…
You’ll need…
- 4 wooden hearts (4 inches wide)
- Wooden paw print (3 inch)
- Alphabet letters (3 inch)
- Red & white wire ribbon (2.5 inch)
- Metal ring (3 inch)
- Acrylic paint
- Paint brushes and wet wipes
- Glue gun
- Scissors
- 600-grit sandpaper (optional)
Step 1
We used heart shaped ornaments, so the first step was to cut off the jute hanger.
With a small dab of paint (like brown or grey), lightly coat the heart using a wet wipe or paintbrush. If you use a wet wipe, rub off any excess paint to give the wood more of a stained look – instead of a solid paint finish – if you’d like.
Step 2
Once the paint has dried, barely dip the end of your paintbrush in white paint and gently guide the brush over the entire surface of the heart. This dry brush technique helps to give the wood a rustic, aged finish.
Step 3
Next, paint the wood paw print and letters L, V, and E. Once everything is dry, you can lightly sand these to rough them up a bit. (You can lightly sand the edges of the wood hearts, too, if you’d like.)
Step 4
Glue the letters and paw print onto the front of each heart.
Step 5
Cut a piece of ribbon about 18 – 20 inches long. Fold over one end around the metal ring and glue the edge down to secure the ring in place for hanging. Make a V cut on the other end to give it a finished look and prevent it from fraying.
Step 6
Place the four hearts onto the ribbon and when you’re happy with the spacing etc., glue the hearts down to secure them in place.
This easy-to-DIY doggy wall hanging turned out so cute! It’ll spruce up any room on the cheap, but looks like you spent a lot more! And although it’s simply sweet for Valentine’s Day – it also makes a great birthday, Mother’s day or Christmas gift for all the dog lovers in your life.
