14 Nov Dog Fabric Covered Ornaments
Oh my gosh, did you know that Lowe’s has craft supplies for the holidays? Walking around the Christmas displays, we found big ‘ole bags of unfinished wood ornaments or some with wood slices and jute string for only $5 each. Perfect starters for making homemade Christmas decorations for the tree or as neighbor gifts this year!
Everything else you need for this week’s craft is likely already in your craft stash – some festive doggie fabric, a paint pen, ribbons and a scrap of felt. In just a few steps, you can learn how to make these darling DIY Dog Fabric Covered Ornaments.
You’ll need…
- Trace out the ornament shape onto the backside of your fabric and cut it out.
- Paint the ornament’s top and sides.
- Brush a thin layer of Mod Podge onto the wood surface and press your fabric in place.
- Sandpaper the edges to remove any excess fabric.
- If you’d like, you can touch up the sides with paint.
- Brush another thin layer of Mod Podge over the fabric.
- Glue ribbon across the top and add a bow.
- Finish the back by gluing down a piece of felt.
- Use a skinny piece of ribbon to tie a hanger to the top.
- Hang and enjoy!
Making handmade ornaments for Christmas can be so fun – even simple projects can be great memory-makers when you create with friends and family.
These would make sweet gift toppers for holiday gifts too. Use a mix of fabrics to vary up the look of each one. And you can personalize them with different dog breed fabrics, an old shirt from Dad – or even a dish towel from Mom will do! Just think of the paw-ssibilities!
