21 Feb Dollar Tree DIY – Custom Cutting Board
No kitchen is complete without a custom cutting board. One that fits your kitchen decor and keeps your family safe when prepping meals or a batch of tasty dog treats. 😉
During a recent trip to Dollar Tree, we found these cute glass cutting boards (both round and square shapes) that are the inspiration for today’s project. With a little bit of Mod Podge and some fun fabrics, you can easily create a cutting board for any season. And depending on the scrap fabrics that you have in your stash, the design possibilities are endless!
These turn out amazing, and they would make some awesome last minute gifts. Our favorites are ones made in honor of those furry best buddies. They make the perfect addition to a Dog Mom gift basket.
You’ll need…
- A tempered glass cutting board (best place to get it is Dollar Tree, but Amazon has it, too)
- Scraps of fabric such as cotton or denim
- Dishwasher safe Mod Podge and a brush
- Xacto knife or paint scraper
- Scissors
- Rubbing alcohol
- Pen or pencil
- Fabric glue
- Remove the four rubber non-slip pads from the bottom of the cutting board using your Xacto knife. With a rag and a little rubbing alcohol, wipe off any glue residue that might be left behind from the pads, as needed.
- Place the clean board on top of your favorite dog-themed fabric and trace around the glass. Then, cut yourself a fabric shape the size of the board.
- Cut a fun shape, like a dog bone, from a complementary colored fabric and glue this to the larger piece of fabric.
- Cover the back-side of the board with Mod Podge and place the right side of the fabric onto the board (so the wrong side is facing you). Press out any air bubbles, especially around the smaller shape, and trim off any excess fabric around the edges of the board.
- Add another layer of Mod Podge to secure and seal the fabric to the board. Let dry.
- Use glue to re-adhere the rubber pads to the bottom of the cutting board.
How quick and easy is this?! These custom cutting boards are easy to clean (top-rack dishwasher safe) and great for preparing all sorts of food. They also make great displays for cheeses, hor d’oeuvres and tasty tidbits at your next pawty or celebration!
