29 May DIY Custom Canine Coasters
We’re getting creative with a small, home essential today. With a favorite photo of our furry best friend, a little tissue paper and a rustic piece of stone, you can keep those pesky water rings away by creating your very own, unique set of dog-themed coasters.
Let’s see how easy it is to make adorable custom coasters so your canine cutie can hold your drink at your next party!
You’ll need…
- 4×4 inch natural stone tiles (we recommend one that’s at least 4 inches wide, so there’s plenty of room for a nice-sized image)
- White gift wrap tissue paper
- Mod Podge and a brush
- Printer paper
- Printer
- Scissors
- Painter’s tape
- Clear coat acrylic sealer
- Rubber bumpers
Step 1
Trim a piece of tissue paper so that it’s a bit smaller than a piece of printer paper and then tape the two pieces of paper together. Place the prepared paper into the printer so that it will print onto the tissue side. Select your favorite dog photo, ensure it’s a size that will properly fit the 4×4 inch tile, and print it. Cut out the picture (while the two papers are still taped together).
Step 2
If you want it a little rustic looking you can tear the edges by hand and center it on the tile to make sure it fits.
Step 3
Brush the tile with a thin coat of Mod Podge. As you place the tissue paper on the tile, smooth out any of the air bubbles. Then, gently brush another layer of Mod Podge on top of the tissue paper to secure it to the tile.
Add a few more coats of mod podge over the paper, letting it dry between coats.
Step 4
Give your tile a few hours (or overnight) to dry. If you don’t use a dishwasher safe Mod Podge, spray a layer of acrylic to waterproof the coaster and protect the image from moisture.
Step 5
Add rubber bumpers to the back of the tile to protect tabletops from the rough stone surface.
Oh just look how they turned out!! The photos give these such a personal touch. These DIY Custom Canine Coasters are a stunning, handmade gift that anyone can make!
