Dollar Tree DIY Honey Bee Clothespin Wreath

We’re OBSESSED with this colorful and quirky clothespin wreath 🐝💛 and you will be too! This week’s craft celebrates one of nature’s tiniest helpers, the honey bee!

Bee-themed decor is buzzing in popularity this year, and we’ve got a gorgeous Dollar Tree DIY project that lets you jump on the trend without breaking the bank. If you’re in the mood to craft something whimsical that’s as sweet as can be, you’re in the right place!

Hand-painted clothespins, some cute metal bee decor, polka dot ribbons, and a few faux flowers are the main players in this happy Honey Bee Clothespin Wreath! So swing by Dollar Tree, grab your supplies, and let’s make something that’s totally easy, super cute and perfect for weekend crafting. 🍯✨

You’ll need…

  1. Paint half of your wooden clothespins (33 of them) in yellow and the other half in black. Let dry.
  2. Using a white paint marker, add polka dots to one side of the black clothespins.
  3. Once all of the clothespins are dry, it’s time to attach them to the wire frame. Clip the pins to the inner two wire rings of the frame, alternating solid yellow and black pins as you work your way around. Continue attaching pins around the entire frame until it’s full.
  4. Cut 2 pieces of black ribbon that are about 10 inches long. Loop over one end over about ⅓ and glue the end down so that you’re left with something that looks like half a bow. (Basically, a loop and a tail.) Repeat this step with the other black ribbon. Then glue these down toward the bottom of the wreath so they overlap each other in an X pattern. This will be the backdrop to the main bow you’ll make next.
  5. Make a bow with four loops from a wide yellow ribbon. Cut off the tails. Glue this big bow on top of the black ribbon.
  6. Glue a few faux sunflowers as embellishments on your wreath.
  7. Cut strips of yellow felt that are about an inch or less wide to make a felt flower. Start at one end of the felt and roll it tightly until you run out of felt. Then glue another piece of felt to the end of the first piece and continue rolling. Add as many pieces of felt as you’d like. The more you add, the larger the flower. You’re basically looking to make a shape that resembles a checkerboard piece (short, wide and flat) with a spiral in the middle. Repeat this process for as many felt flowers as you’d like. In our example, we made 5 of these little beauties. Glue these in place next to your other faux flowers to create a bouquet.
  8. Time to make your very own custom honey bee! Wiggle the metal bee head and wings gently back and forth until the shape comes away from the yellow bee bucket. Now you can use this bee as-is, or if you’d like to give him a little body, you can use wire cutters to cut the lower half off of the metal bee hanger. Attach the head and wings shape to the body and legs shape with super glue and hot glue. Let dry.
  9. Attach your custom bee to the wreath, tucking the little fella into a flower.

With a little imagination and a lot of fun you can create instant summer vibes for your front door! The clothespins give it such a rustic charm and they’re so easy to work with. Consider customizing this with your own unique touches. Maybe tuck a little yellow bee plushie dog toy into the flowers instead of the custom metal bee! No matter how you make it, this honey bee wreath is sure to brighten the day of both family and friends.
