20 Nov DIY Dog Socks Advent Calendar
The anticipation of Christmas is half the fun of the holiday. The best way to track it? A dog-themed advent countdown calendar, of course!
This year, we’re countin’ down to a holly jolly canine Christmas with a super easy no-sew DIY Dog Socks Advent Calendar. All you need is a colorful mix of dog socks in fun holiday designs like these cute snowmen, reindeer and trees or these pawdorable santas. Then hang with some ribbon and mini clothespins – and fill with sweet surprises or playful activities for your dog.
It’s a great way to include your pup in the holiday season and to celebrate the magic of Christmas together.
You’ll need…
- 25 dog socks in multiple styles
- 5/8 inch red ribbon
- Mini clothespins 2-1/2 inch
- 25 round wood disks, ornaments or hang tags
- Red and green colored popsicle sticks
- Miscellaneous items for fillers, such as gingerbread dog treats, mini dog toys, etc.
- Sharpie pen
Step 1
Cut ribbon to your desired length. In this example, we’re hanging the calendar over the fireplace like a garland, so the ribbon is cut a little longer than the mantel.
Step 2
Remove the Velcro fasteners from socks that have them and use clothespins to hang the socks evenly spaced along the ribbon.
Step 3
Number the round disks 1-25 with a marker and pair them up with a sock using the clothespins (or glue).
Step 4
Write fun activities on popsicle sticks that you can do with your dog (Bake some dog treats, Go for a drive to look at the lights, Go to the park, Watch a dog movie) and place each into some of the socks. Check out our DIY I’m Bored Kids & Dogs Activity Jar for more activity ideas.
Step 5
After you hang the ribbon sock garland, tuck treats and small toys into the remaining socks until all twenty five socks are filled – one for each day counting down until Santa visits. And for any larger toys that won’t fit into a sock (like a new frisbee or plush toy), you can write them down on a popsicle stick instead.
You’ll love how creative you can get with this advent calendar DIY. For example, if you don’t have a mantel, hang the dog socks in a tree shape. It takes up less room and looks just as cute! Oh, and because you can reuse this calendar year after year, this project will make your fun holiday tradition even more special.
