16 Apr DIY I’m Bored Kids & Dogs Activity Jar
Hey, here’s a fun dog-themed project for you and your kids! This DIY I’m Bored Kids & Dogs Activity Jar is the perfect thing to prep for the dreaded “Mom, I’m bored!” heard from the kids a week or so after school gets out.
The basic idea of a “Bored Jar” is that you fill a jar (or some container) with ideas of kid-friendly activities that your children can pick from when they are bored. And since we all have a pup or two at home, why not include our best furry friends in all the fun?!!
You’ll need…
A small container like a doggie treat jar, coffee mug, recycled soup can, etc.
15-30 Colored jumbo popsicle sticks (size 6 inches)
Sharpie fine tip pen
Various colorful washi tapes
Step 1
Wrap one end of the popsicle sticks in several colored washi tapes.
Step 2
Come up with a list of dog-themed activities together with your kids and write the activities on the popsicle sticks in permanent marker. Activities can vary based on your family’s needs, but we’ve put together a bunch of ideas for your jar to get you started.
- Bake some dog treats
- Blow bubbles
- Brush their fur
- Build a dog fort
- Dance with pup
- Draw a picture of pup
- Give your pup a bath
- Go for a walk
- Go to the park
- Have a picnic with pup
- Have a pretend tea party
- Hide treats inside
- Hide treats outside
- Invent a game with pup
- Learn something about the breed
- List your dog’s favorite things to do
- Make a fresh veggie Scooby snack
- Play ball
- Play dress up
- Play hide and seek
- Play squeaky toys
- Put on a play about your dog
- Read a story to pup
- Run around the yard 5 times with pup
- Sing a song to dog
- Splash in a kiddie pool
- Take a nap with pup
- Take pictures of pup
- Teach dog to shake
- Teach dog to sit
- Tell jokes to your dog
- Throw a dog party
- Throw a frisbee
- Write a letter to your pup
- Write a story about your dog
- Whatever you wish
Let your imaginations run wild as you create as many kid/pup pleasers as you can! You could even color code the activities, so that the color of the stick matches the age-appropriateness of the activity. Or you could plan to have the older kids help out the younger ones with whatever idea is selected.
Step 3
Plop the sticks in the jar. And the next time the kiddos say they’re bored or you want to do a fun activity together with your pup, pull out a stick and the kids get to do what it says. Enjoy!
