06 Nov Ornate Frame Ornaments
We’re working a little Dollar Tree magic this week, giving miniature ornate wooden frames a rustic makeover and pairing them with beautiful Christmas cards to create charming DIY Christmas ornaments. A festive flourish of greenery, sparkly ribbons and a little holiday magic – even a treasured family photo – can turn these keepsakes into something truly special!
It’s a quick, budget-friendly Christmas craft with a beautiful, nostalgic feel. No need to stop at one…your Christmas tree deserves its own little art gallery!
You’ll need…
- Unfinished fancy wood frames
- Fun Christmas cards like these cute pups or boho holiday cards
- Brown, red, or green acrylic paint and brush
- Chalk white paint
- Miniature greenery
- Thin red, green or white ribbons
- Hot glue gun and sticks
- Scissors
- Card stock (optional)
- Give your wood frame a light coat of paint in brown, red, or green. Let dry.
- Next, use a dry brush with very little white chalk paint, gently brush over the raised details to create a rustic, weathered look. Let dry.
- Cut out a portion of a Christmas card that will be featured in your ornament.
Note: If the image you want in the card is too small, cut some card stock big enough to cover the opening in the ornament and use this as the backdrop for the image. Cover the card stock with some coordinating scrapbook paper or wide ribbon first, then add your smaller image on top. - Glue the wood frame onto the Christmas card design.
- Add some small bits of greenery and a bow to the top for a festive embellishment.
- Snip a short piece of ribbon. Make a loop and glue it to the back for the hanger.
The best Christmas decorations aren’t always the fanciest. Sometimes, they’re the little treasures that make us smile year after year. So put on your favorite Christmas tunes, pour yourself some hot cocoa and get ready to make a few merry little memories!
