05 Feb Dollar Tree Valentine’s Plant Stake Makeover
If you love dogs, this Dollar Tree DIY is about to steal your heart!
This week’s craft is inspired by the cutest Valentine Dachshund yard stake we spotted at our local Dollar Tree, and it was just begging for an easy-peasy makeover. By pairing the sweet tin sign with a wood heart base and a mix of fabrics and ribbons, this project turns leftover supplies from your craft stash into charming Valentine wall decor.
With playful shades of pink, red, white, a few pops of blue and some paw prints too!, the finished piece feels cozy, colorful, and wonderfully handmade.
You’ll need…
- Tin metal plant stake in a festive dog Valentine design
(Amazon has some cute plant stakes in hearts and gnome shapes too!) - 10 inch wood heart
- Pink pawprint fabric and ribbons
- Assortment of ribbons in red burlap, red gingham, blue gingham, teal polka dots, and pink hearts or your favorite Valentine’s ribbons
- 2 inch layered felt heart puffy heart or sticker
- Tiny paper roses (optional)
- Fabric glue
- Hot glue gun and sticks
- Scissors
- Lay your ribbons and cut fabrics (like stripes) across the front of the wood heart and rough cut them to size so they fit the width of the heart.
- Once you’re happy with the overall design or order you placed everything, use fabric glue to attach the ribbons and fabric. Let them dry and trim the excess around the heart.
- Remove the plant stake from the tin sign. Use hot glue to adhere it to the left side of the heart.
- Glue a felt heart and paper roses to the “open” space on the right side of the heart.
- Cut a piece of thin ribbon, make a loop, and attach it to the top for a hanger.
Once it’s finished, this sweet Valentine decor piece adds such a cheerful, homemade touch to any space. It’s playful, cozy, and full of charm, making it the perfect way to celebrate the season of love with a little extra paw-sonality.
