14 Jan Bow Garland for Valentine’s Day
This week, LOVE is in the craft aisle… and honestly, this is the best time of year to be there!
We’ve got a DIY bow garland that is the perfect excuse to pop into Hobby Lobby, dig through the Christmas ribbon section, and scoop up some amazing finds at deep discounts (seriously, some are up to 90% off). As you browse, grab a few wide ribbons in red-and-white patterns that catch your eye. Stripes, polka dots, checks, fuzzy edges, and soft textures all work great. Basically, if it feels Valentine-ish, it’s fair game!
This is one of those quick, feel-good projects that comes together fast and looks way cuter in person! ❤️🎀
You’ll need…
- 3 (or more) 2.5 inch wide ribbons in red and white patterns
- 1 inch wide ribbon in red and white
- Zip cable ties (about 8 inches long)
- Jute twine
- Hot glue gun and sticks
- Scissors
- Stapler
- Cut 15 strips of wide ribbon that are about 24 inches long. Note: This will make a garland about 7.5 feet long. (For our example, we used 3 different ribbons and cut 5 strips of each.)
- Take one ribbon and criss-cross the ends so that it looks like an awareness ribbon. 🎗️
- Scrunch everything together in the middle to make a bow shape and use a zip tie to secure the bow in place. Cut the excess zip tie.
- Wrap a piece of 1 inch ribbon around the middle to cover the zip tie. Adhere the ends of the ribbon with glue.
- Repeat steps 2-4 for all other strips of ribbon.
- Place two bows together so their loops touch, then staple (or glue) the loops together to connect the bows. Continue stapling bows until your garland is complete.
- Make a hanger on each end by threading a piece of jute twine through the last bow and tie a knot to create a twine loop. Hang and enjoy!
Feminine, cheerful, and right on trend, this bow garland is an easy seasonal update. It’s proof that bows are back in a big way and they look especially adorable when handmade.
