Quirky Rag Christmas Tree

If you love cozy textures and homespun holiday style, this week’s craft is for you. We’re crafting a charming rag Christmas tree made from fabric scraps, lace, and ribbon for a layered, rustic look that’s warm and welcoming.

It’s simple, creative, and a perfect way to use up your favorite trimmings (or holiday craft stash!). Whether you make one for yourself or as a heartfelt gift, this little tree will spread Christmas cheer wherever it’s displayed.

You’ll need…

  1. Glue a wooden bead onto the center of a wood slice. This will be the base for your tree.
  2. Next glue one end of a wood skewer into that bead for the tree’s trunk.
  3. Time to cut a bunch of fabric and trims and put them into piles based on length! You’ll need about a dozen of each size: 12 inches, 10 inches, 8 inches and 6 inches long. Tip: It’s best to use fabrics, ribbons and trims that are less than an inch wide.
  4. Tie each fabric or trim around the tree trunk, starting with the longest pile and working your way through the shortest pile.
  5. Continue tying your trims, ribbons and fabric up the tree trunk, mixing colors and textures as you go. Push the pieces down so they are stacked tightly on top of each other. This will ultimately give you a fuller tree.
  6. So this tree is supposed to be quirky and rustic, but it’s important to ensure it has a nice overall pine tree shape. Now’s a good time to give it a “hair cut” and trim away any stragglers or long tails.
  7. Make a cute red bow and glue it to the top of the wood skewer. And you’re done!

Who says Christmas trees have to be serious? This rustic cutie is the perfect craft to kick off your holiday decorating…simple, sweet, and guaranteed to make you smile every time you see it!
