Wood Slice Snowman Ornaments

Winter crafting is in full swing, and this week’s project is all about cozy textures, sparkling details, and festive fun!

We’re turning wood slices into the sweetest little snowmen. We just love the chunky knit hats, button eyes, and a touch of shimmer that makes them sparkle under the tree lights. Each one is full of personality and charm, making them the perfect addition to your holiday décor (or a heartfelt handmade gift).

Simple, whimsical, and full of winter cheer…these snowmen are sure to melt hearts!

You’ll need…

  1. Coat one side of the wood slice with white paint.
  2. While the paint is still wet, sprinkle a light dusting of microglitter across the surface. Tap off the excess.
  3. Cut a rectangle from the chunky sweater that’s about 7 x 7 inches in size. (The width should wrap around the slice with a slight overlap; the height should allow room to fold a brim and still gather the top.) Or simply cutting 7 inches off the end of a sleeve will make things easier.
  4. Fold up a neat brim along the bottom edge. Wrap and glue the sweater around the top third of the slice, and glue the seam at the back.
Pro Tip: Glue the hat to the back of the wood slice first. That way you can always adjust where the front of the hat is glued down after you make the face.
  5. Gather the top of the hat and tie snugly with jute twine to create a cute poof. Trim any excess.
  6. Glue two small black buttons in place for eyes. Then cut a slim triangle of orange felt for the carrot nose and glue it beneath the eyes, angled slightly to one side for character.
  7. Trim a tiny curved twig and glue it below the nose for a sweet smile. No twigs on hand? You can always draw a smile with a black paint pen or marker.
  8. Embellish the hat brim with a sparkly pine sprig and a small button to give your snowman a little flair.
  9. Use a wire ornament hook and thread it through the top of the hat for a hanger.

That’s it! A cute, sparkly, and totally giftable snowmen ready to hang on the tree or tie onto packages. Now grab your cocoa, turn on your favorite holiday tunes, and get ready for some winter magic!
