13 Nov Dollar Tree DIY Paper Doily Christmas Tree
Time to craft a cheerful Christmas!
This week we’ve gathered up some unexpected finds at our local Dollar Tree to create the most charming Paper Doily Christmas Trees. Our quest was inspired by Stacey @wilshire_collections who made such a beautiful version of this home decor item that we had to give it a try!
First of all, this craft couldn’t be easier. You only need a few simple supplies (wood base, paper doilies, a whisper of paint, and a scrap of plaid fabric) to design a delightful dimensional tree you’ll enjoy all season long.
Give this Dollar Tree craft project a try with friends and family. Everyone can join in the fun to spark some creativity and celebrate the season together!
If you need a Dollar Tree alternative check out the list below from similar items from Amazon.
You’ll need…
- Paint a thin layer of Mod Podge onto the wood circle.
- Place the fabric onto the wood while the Mod Podge is still wet and press down to remove any air bubbles.
- Trim fabric around the wood base to remove any excess.
- Take one of each size of doily out of the package, then fold each in half, twice, so they look like a triangle or pie shape.
- Use a small dab of hot glue to secure the folded doilies.
- Paint the tops and under the folds of each doily using a dry brush technique. As you lightly brush on the paint, each layer will curl to magically create the tree’s dimension.
- Time to make the tree! Glue the wood stick and largest doily near the bottom for the base of the tree. Then layer the doilies so the next smaller one is on top.
- Top your tree with a cute red bow.
- Glue a piece of ribbon as a hanger on the back, hang and enjoy!
Imagine inviting the girls over for some charcuterie and this festive activity. What fun! In just a few minutes, you’ve got a farmhouse lace doily Christmas tree that’s oh-so pretty and wintry! You can even add buttons, bells, or mini pom poms as embellishments if you want, or keep it cute and simple.
