08 Nov Christmas Gnome Dog Treat Jars
We came across the cutest DIY candy jar idea from @itsalwaysautumn and thought it would be fun to give it our own dog momma twist!
Basically all you need is a mason jar and a few supplies from Dollar Tree and you can make an adorable Christmas Gnome Dog Treat Jar! Simply give the container an easy spruce-up for the holidays with some felt, fur and a wooden bead – and you’ve got yourself an adorable gnome hat that fits snugly over the lid.
This is one of the easiest crafts we’ve ever done. And these little characters turn out super sweet every time, so they are definitely addictive. Fill your jar with treats using our new holiday Cranberry Pumpkin Dog Treats recipe and you’ve got the pawfect gift this season!😉
You’ll need…
- 16 oz glass mason jar (standard mouth size)
- Sheet of red or green felt (premium or heavy-weight preferred)
- 3 in square of white fur (or felt)
- ½ inch wood ball
- Hot glue and sticks
- Scissors
There’s a free printable pattern of the hat and beard from It’s Always Autumn that makes this Dollar Tree DIY even easier! Download the PDF here then print and cut out the pieces before you begin.
- Fold your felt in half. Place the hat pattern along the fold and cut out the basic hat shape.
- Trace the beard pattern onto the back of the fur and cut out the beard shape.
Tip: Before cutting the beard, push the fur away from your traced lines so that you’re only cutting the woven backing and not the fur itself. - Fold up the bottom portion of the hat 1 inch and glue in place to make a hem.
- Add some hot glue along the top edge of the beard, aim for the middle of the hat and tuck it under the hem to adhere it in place.
- Move some fur out of the way before gluing the wood nose down.
- Pick the hat up and fold both sides of the hat together to form a peak at the top. The edges of the hat will overlap vertically (straight up and down) and the hem ends should meet in a point. Glue these edges of the hat together to complete your gnome.
Fill your jar with tasty dog treats, close the lid and top it off with your darling gnome hat. If you prefer, you may glue the hat onto the jar lid, but it’s not necessary.
Don’t you just love how he adds a touch of winter whimsy to your kitchen décor? These would make wonderful homemade holiday gifts for your favorite dog lovers, too! Either way, these little fellas will bring plenty of Christmas cheer to pampered pups all season long.
