Bandana crafts for dogs are always fun projects… and easy on the wallet too! We just love the effortless way kerchiefs add a pop of color and pizzaz to your pup’s look, creating an instant outfit.

And today’s doggie bandana project is stacking up to be a good one! Just wait ‘til you see the layering technique on the floral embellishments – so quick and easy – and the result gives this wonderfully colorful 3D effect!

You’ll need…

¼ – ½ yard cotton fabric
Wool blend felt
Artificial silk flowers
Dog bone buttons

Embroidery floss and needle
Scissors and pinking shears
Measuring tape

Step 1

The size of your bandana will depend on the size of your dog’s neck. As a guideline, you’ll start with a square piece of fabric for the base that is:

14 to 18 inch in size for small to medium sized dogs
22 to 26 inch in size for large to extra-large pups

Fold your square in half (diagonally) until the two points align and cut along the fold, so that you end up with two triangles of fabric. You’ll only need one triangle for this project. So the other can be set aside or used to make a second bandana.

Step 2

Pull apart a few silk flowers and separate the pieces. Then cut some circles and flower shapes from felt in various sizes.

Step 3

Create custom flowers by layering the various pieces. Mix and match the shapes, colors and sizes as you go. Top the stack with a dog bone button or other embellishment.

Step 4

Arrange the flowers on the bandana until you’re happy with their placement. Then use a needle and thread to sew each flower in place.

Tie the bandana loosely around your dog’s neck, creating a chic double knot. Be sure that it’s not too snug. You’ll know it fits perfectly when you can easily get a few of your fingers in between their neck and the cloth.

Omgosh, just look at our little garden goddesses – they’re too cute! Ok, what can we say, we’re crazy dog moms who can’t contain our oohs and ahhs. But be careful! You’ll be doing the same, when you turn your pup into a fuzzy flower maiden sporting her new doggie bandana.
