11 Dec DIY Wood Disc Holiday Dog Wreath
Ok, so if you love the charm of a farmhouse, rustic Christmas – with a little bit of country pup thrown in – you’ve just gotta give this project a try. In less than an hour you can create a stunning dog-themed beauty to hang on your door!
This DIY Wood Disc Holiday Dog Wreath made from real wood slices not only looks impressive, it’s really simple to create! Oh, and you can even customize it for that one-of-a-kind special touch.
If you’re looking for new and creative homemade ideas to gift during the holidays, this one is it! Ready to see how easy it is to make?
You’ll need…
- Flat wooden floral craft wreath ring 12″or larger
- 30 natural wood slices, 3 ½ – 4 inches
- Rustic holiday ribbon, 2½ inches wide, like this fun red truck holiday ribbon
- Fabric dog ornament
- Imitation pine branches, holly leaves, berries, pinecones or other embellishments
- Hot glue gun and sticks
- Wood glue or E6000 glue
- Scissors
- Chalk paint and letter stencils
Tip: Before you get started you can tie a loop of string around the wreath form to use as a hanger. Or you can attach a hanger as a last step.
Step 1
Place a layer of wood slices around the wreath so you know where each wood slice will go. Then use a dab of wood glue and hot glue together to adhere the wood slices around the wreath ring. The hot glue allows you to attach each piece quickly without things shifting around and the wood glue gives everything a more permanent hold.
Step 2
Create a second layer of wood slices around the ring. To do this, you’ll want to glue each wood slice so that you’re adhering it where two slices of wood on the first layer meet. Continue adding slices until the second layer is complete.
Step 3
Make a bow with the holiday ribbon and attach it to the wreath with hot glue. Then, embellish the bow by gluing the dog ornament on top. (Hint: Make the bow without a center poof so there’s room for the dog.)
Step 4
Tuck and glue any winter greenery, berries and pinecones under and around the bow.
Step 5
As a final touch, decide on whatever word you want to paint on the slices, such as PEACE, LOVE, MERRY, your dog’s name, etc. We decided it’d be fun to write the word JOY, making a pawprint out of the O. Using letter stencils can make this step a little easier, if you have them on hand.
Give the wreath some time for the glue to dry before hanging it up… and you’ll be ready to welcome your guests for the holidays!
These are simply gorgeous! Just love how warm and wonderful and homey they turn out! Like celebrating Christmas in a cabin in the woods with your pup curled up by the fire. And wouldn’t these make the easiest (and oh-so-pretty) gifts? So once you’ve made one for yourself why not create a special one for your favorite pet parent.
Merry Woofmas!
